In a 7th Circuit decision handed down today, the Court held that a third-party purchaser of debt is a "debt collector" under the Federal Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA). Accordingly, such purchasers of debt are liable for violations of the act vis-a-vis any actions taken in attempts to recover such debt from the original borrowers.
